The House of Cyprus presents Petros Moris’ solo exhibition, under the title Transformation of Commons.

The opening of the exhibition will be held on Wednesday 28 February 2018, at 20:00, at the Embassy of Cyprus, 2A Xenofontos Street, Syntagma Square, Athens. The exhibition will run until 4 April 2018.

Petros Moris’ work Transformation of Commons is structured as an evolving visual essay, a spatial and narrative construction that negotiates the transformative interrelations and the mutual stratifications of the material, technological and cultural environment. The exhibition at the House of Cyprus constitutes the second version of the work, which has been developing since 2016 in collaboration with Point Center of Contemporary Art and the Cyprus Institute in Nicosia. The present installation unfolds through a sequence of digital projections that are introduced in the space as sculptures made of light. The primary matter of these works is a series of 3D models which resulted from the computational processing of photographic archives, collected by the artist during his visits at urban and natural landscapes in Cyprus.

Fragments of the geological and archaeological substrate, technologies of energy and information management, skins and structures from the inorganic and organic domain interweave in order to trace the historical, epistemological and morphological correlations between natural phenomena, technological infrastructures, the material and intangible manifestations of memory.

Petros Moris (born Lamia, 1986) has studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and has received an MFA in Curating from the Goldsmiths University of London. He is currently undergoing Phd research at the Architectural Department of the University of Thessaly with scholarship from the Onassis Foundation. He has been nominated for the Deste Prize 2015 and has been awarded with the 1rst Spyropoulos Prize 2012. He has presented his personal and collective work in solo shows at Point Centre for Contemporary Art, DUVE Berlin, Union Pacific, Project Native Informant and SPACE and in group shows at art spaces and museums in Greece and abroad, including the New Museum NY, Benaki Museum, the Cycladic Art Museum, the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the House of Cyprus, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich, Ontario College of Art & Design University, Centre Cívic Can Felipa, Mestrovic Pavilion and Aarhus Art Building. He has curated exhibitions and events for the Athens Biennial, Circuits and Currents, the Chisenhale Gallery and the Whitechapel Gallery and delivered presentations on his work work at the ICA London, Jupiter Woods, the National and Kapodistrian University, KAM Workshops and the National Hellenic Research Foundation.
